Sarasota is known for our outstanding arts culture, a boon for local residents and a major source of appeal for prospective relocators and also visitors, as CNN reported recently. The infamously purple Van Wezel is at the center of the Sarasota Performing Arts Foundation and is set to undergo a transformation that will create a new state-of-the-art and ecologically resilient hub for diverse performances.
While multiple designs have been proposed and the plan remains under consideration, there is a lot of discussion and community engagement on how to evolve the 'cultural campus' within the Bay Park and to ensure its accessibility for residents. As a former professional ballerina, I take particular pride in the excellence of Sarasota's arts culture, and I am vested in the decisions about our arts infrastructure and community inclusion.
