One of my favorite things about Sarasota - especially with my ballet past - is our rich arts culture. The visual and performing arts that are clustered in SRQ add dynamic and cosmopolitan appeal to the city. Since 1949, the 80-member Sarasota Orchestra has been located Downtown, presenting vibrant musical performances in a beautiful location alongside Sarasota Bay. There's been recent talk of relocating the orchestra to Lakewood Ranch, a move that would deprive our downtown core of one of its premier cultural institutions.
Please join me in encouraging the Sarasota Orchestra to stay downtown! The Downtown Friends of the Orchestra have launched an initiative inviting neighbors to share their support of the continued downtown location to the leadership of the Orchestra and to our city commissioners.
